Fabric Dying with Flowers (Guest Designer Julie McCullough)

This workshop will explore two techniques, each student will be able to experiment with both techniques during the class.

The first technique will be dyeing a scarf, either square or long or a yard of fabric to use for later projects using florals, vegetable skins, and plants. We will talk about how these natural supplies can create very unique colors and patterns for your designs.

The second technique will be the art of shibori, mostly concentrating on the use of materials for tying, folding, wrapping, and then dyeing the fabric. We will offer a large square of fabric that can then become a project of your own, like quilting or creating pillow cases, or you can bring your own garment to dye.  We even suggest going to a thrift store to find a wonderful white or ivory garment to use. Please be sure your garment is 100% natural fibers, such as Silk, Linen, Cotton, Rayon, Bamboo or Tencel or it will not accept the dyes. In this process we will use a fiber reactive dye.
